Being your best self doesn’t mean being a different person. say that again. you do not have to be anyone other than yourself to be your best self. it means adding new, improved habits to your authentic self. it means embracing who you are and maybe just replacing bad habits with new healthier choices!
This week, my teenage son and i had a conversation about doing what it takes to be a successful, productive human being. We talked about making the more difficult choices. if we take the path of least resistance that typically means Procrastination, excuses, and allowance for negative thoughts and fears in our heads. almost always this is followed by regret and guilt. so how do we avoid this cycle? we make different choices!
sounds easy enough but if you are any thing like me, sometimes this “feels” easier said than done. notice that i said feels – not is. Here’s the truth of the matter, making a different choice is easy. how we feel about it is more complicated. in my younger years, a former colleague shared this theory with me – “successful people do the thing that needs to be done EVEN WHEN THEY DON’T WANT TO.”
i challenged my youngest to live this way and today i challenge you to put this into practice this week. when you are going through your day make the choice that will breed a new habit. a choice that will lead to success, not regret. do you want to workout? nope. Do it anyway! do you feel like organizing your closet? nope. Do it anyway! would you rather have a donut? yes! Have some blueberries instead. maybe these aren’t your struggles – but you get the gist.
I am not saying that perfection is the goal here-that is an impossible, guilt riddled dream. if you can just make one more successful decision each day, or even each week then you are making progress! That is the goal – PROGRESS! let’s do this together! if you see me this week-let me know how you were successful, comment here or hit me up on socials! I cannot wait to hear about your new habits!
